Most of what passes for seafood is merely dead fish. Here it is the real deal, straight off the boat, cooked by people who care about fish as if their livelihoods depend on it, which they do, and served up in the copious quantities and value for money prices that are only possible when the fish hasn’t passed through several middlemen before it gets, days or even weeks old, to the table.

Arrive early and you will see fishermen delivering their catch, straight off the boat in oilskins and sea boots. One of them often hangs around regaling guests with salty tales and fishy stories. There is nothing this guy doesn’t know about fish and fishing and the cooking of seafood. His lectures are in themselves worth paying for.


They say seafood is an aphrodisiac. If that is true The Puffer menu is passion on a plate. If you love your food, you will love the Puffer restaurant.

“Best of the West Coast”

Our dinner menus incorporate fresh, local and most importantly sustainable produce. Our unique location provides delivery to our doorstep of Firth of Lorne langoustine, crab, lobster, hand dived scallops and squat lobsters. We are proud to support our local fishermen many who have fished these waters for generations.

Wild venison comes from just over the water on the Isle of Seil and our lamb and beef are sourced from Kilbride Farm and Auchnasaul both within a 5 mile radius. We are also committed to sourcing local dairy products, meat, game, eggs, fruit and vegetables and even grow some of our own on the island. Head Chef Des is passionate about his work and wonderful home cooked dishes are the result complimenting the daily seafood specials. We also firmly believe that any meal is not complete without a delicious homemade dessert made using local eggs, Scottish butter and cream. Our award winning homemade jams, chutneys & preserves feature in many of our recipes and our red onion marmalade compliments our delicious all Scottish Cheese Slate served on a traditional Easdale roof slate. Even the end of your meal at The Puffer will be special- try our Hebridean Coffee made with local Hebridean Liqueur, Brodie’s Volcanic Espresso and finished with double cream or indulge in a mug of our delicious White or Dark Hot Chocolate. We strive to cater for any dietary requirements and will do our best to accommodate requests given adequate advance notice. Delicious Vegetarian options are always available.

The restaurant is unpretentious with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The décor conjures up thoughts of New England with the white washed walls, driftwood art & sea shells. The beautiful seascape paintings are by island artist Alex Macrae and feature many islands in the Outer Hebrides.

The restaurant is also available to book for private functions. Please contact us with your requirements. Dinner reservations are always recommended to avoid disappointment.
